Long Road Repair runs mobile road service for semi trucks, semi trailers and heavy equipment across the South Sound. The shop is at 1616 E 26th St in the Tacoma Tideflats and the service truck goes out from there — to a freeway shoulder, a truck stop, a distribution centre dock, a container yard or a job site.

We cover the whole rig, not just the tractor. A trailer with a seized brake, a flat landing gear, dead lighting or a blown airbag is the same call as an engine that will not start. So is a yard tractor, a forklift, a loader or a piece of heavy equipment that died mid-shift.

What we fix where the truck sits

Tires in the common drive and trailer sizes, air leaks, glad hands and lines, brake chambers and slack adjusters, batteries, starters and cables, lighting and trailer plugs, belts, hoses, coolant, fuel filters, air dryers, jump starts, lockouts and fuel delivery. We carry a diagnostic laptop for engine fault codes, so a derate or a check-engine light does not automatically mean a tow.

What has to come to the shop

Engine tear-downs, transmission and clutch work, alignment, frame and body work, and anything that needs a lift. If we can get you rolling well enough to drive in under your own power, that is almost always cheaper than a tow plus a roadside repair — and we will tell you honestly which situation you are in.

Where we go

Our working radius is roughly thirty miles around Tacoma, which covers the I-5 corridor from Seattle down to Olympia, the Kent and Puyallup valleys, the SR-16 side of the Narrows and the Kitsap peninsula. Response time depends on where you are and what hour it is, and we would rather give you a real window on the phone than a number off a web page. If we cannot reach you quickly we will say so, so you can call someone else instead of waiting.

What to have ready when you call

Where the truck is — exit number, mile marker, cross street or yard address — what it is doing or not doing, the unit and trailer numbers, and whether it is sitting in a live lane. If it is a tire, the size off the sidewall and which position. That is usually enough for us to load the right parts before we leave, which is the difference between one trip and two.
