DuPont is a distribution town sitting right on I-5 at the south end of JBLM. The buildings out here run large-format freight and the highway beside them runs everything else.
Big buildings, straight off the freeway
The industrial area around Center Drive and the Northwest Landing development holds large distribution facilities placed deliberately close to I-5 exits 118 and 119. Trucks get on and off the freeway quickly, which is efficient when everything works and awkward when it does not — there is very little in the way of truck parking, service or anywhere to sit for an hour.
Most of our DuPont calls are therefore either at a dock, in a yard, or on the freeway itself. There is not much middle ground.
I-5 through the JBLM stretch
The freeway here carries heavy traffic and backs up badly in both peaks. A truck on the shoulder through this section is exposed, and the surrounding land is federal or restricted, which limits where a disabled unit can be moved to. We treat freeway calls here as urgent and we plan where the truck is going before we start anything that takes time.
Dock work, drop pools and chassis
At the buildings, the work is the standard distribution list: trailers that will not release, air systems that will not build, dead batteries after a long wait, gladhand seals, trailer lighting and plug faults at the pre-trip, dragging brakes and blown airbags.
Drop trailer pools accumulate defects quietly — seized brakes, flat spots, corroded lighting and leaked-down airbags. A single yard sweep fixes more than five separate emergency calls and stops trailers failing at a gate.
Getting to you from Tacoma
DuPont is about 20 miles south on I-5. It is a clean run outside of peak and a slow one during it. Give us the exit and the building, or the mile marker and direction if you are on the freeway.
Can you work on base?
Not without your sponsorship and clearance, which has to come from your side. If the unit can come off base to a public lot, that is usually far quicker for everyone.
Do you handle drop trailer inspections?
Yes — walking a pool, listing what is wrong and fixing what we can in the same visit is one of the most cost-effective things we do for a distribution site.
