This is airport country. The trucks here run to air cargo schedules, which are tighter than almost anything else on the road, and a breakdown costs a flight rather than a delivery slot.
Air cargo runs on a harder clock
The freight around Sea-Tac and along Pacific Highway South moves against cut-off times, not delivery windows. Miss a cargo cut-off and the freight does not go late, it goes tomorrow. That changes what a good repair looks like: getting a truck moving in thirty minutes is often worth far more than a perfect job in three hours.
We will tell you plainly which one is available. If a temporary fix will get the load to the ramp and the proper repair can happen tonight, that is frequently the right answer here even though it is not elsewhere.
SR-518, SR-509 and nowhere to stop
SR-518 and SR-509 are short, fast and almost entirely without usable shoulders, and the surface streets around the airport are hemmed in by hotels, parking and fencing. A truck stopped on any of it is both a hazard and an obstruction, and we treat those calls as urgent regardless of the fault.
What the work looks like
A lot of straight trucks, box vans, liftgates and day cabs rather than sleeper tractors — plus refrigerated units, because a meaningful share of air freight is temperature-controlled. Electrical and charging faults, liftgate hydraulics, door and body damage from tight docks, brakes, and tires are the everyday list.
Short trips and heavy idling also mean the same aftertreatment problems we see on every stop-and-go fleet: incomplete regens, soot loading and derates on trucks with very few miles.
Distance, honestly
Des Moines and SeaTac are about 26 miles up I-5 from the shop — our outer ring. Scheduled and fleet work is easy. For a true emergency we will give you a real window before we roll, because in this corridor an optimistic estimate is worse than no estimate.
Can you do a temporary repair to make a cargo cut-off?
Where it is safe and legal, yes — and we will tell you exactly what is temporary and what it needs afterwards. We will not make something road-legal-looking that is not actually safe.
Do you work on reefer units?
We handle the truck, trailer, electrical and mechanical side. For a sealed refrigeration circuit we will tell you when it belongs with a refrigeration specialist rather than pretend otherwise.
