Auburn is a junction town. SR-18 meets I-5 on one side and the rail yard sits in the middle, and almost every truck we get called to up there is somewhere between the two.

SR-18, the rail yard and the valley floor

SR-18 is the reason Auburn matters to freight. It is the short way between I-5 and I-90, which means a large share of the trucks on it are through-traffic that has no local shop, no local yard and no plan for breaking down. When one of those stops, it stops on a highway with narrow shoulders and a grade, and that changes how we treat the call.

The other half of Auburn is the valley floor — West Valley Highway, C Street SW, the industrial grid west of the rail yard, and the BNSF yard itself. That work is slower and safer: trucks in yards, trailers dropped for weeks, chassis with dead lighting, equipment that has to pass a gate check.

What actually breaks in Auburn

Two failure profiles, because two kinds of truck. The SR-18 through-traffic gives us highway failures — cooling, charging, tires at speed, air leaks that only show up hot. The valley and rail work gives us the opposite: things that fail from sitting. Dead batteries, seized slack adjusters, corroded trailer plugs, flat spots, brakes that rusted in place over a wet month.

Container chassis are their own category here. A chassis that has been through the rail yard a few dozen times has usually lost lights, has a bent or missing mud flap bracket, and has at least one tire that will not pass a Level 1. None of that is hard to fix; all of it will hold a load up if nobody catches it before the gate.

Getting to you from Tacoma

Trailers, chassis and yard iron — not just tractors

A good share of Auburn calls never involve a tractor. Dropped trailers that will not release, airbags blown out from sitting loaded, landing gear that bent on an uneven yard, container chassis with no lights, yard goats that died mid-shift, forklifts that will not start. Road call or shop visit

Tires, air leaks, batteries, lighting, sensors, most fuel and air system work, and the majority of out-of-service items from a roadside inspection all get done where the truck sits. Engine tear-downs, clutch and transmission work, alignment, frame and body work need the shop and a lift. If we can get you running well enough to drive the 22 miles in yourself, that is almost always cheaper than a tow plus a road repair.

Can you meet a truck inside the BNSF yard?

We can work anywhere we are allowed in, but yard access is yours to arrange, not ours — we cannot badge ourselves through a gate. Get us cleared or bring the unit out to a street or a lot and we will take it from there.

Do you do DOT inspections for Auburn trucks?

Yes, at the Tacoma shop — annual DOT inspections on tractors and trailers, and we will tell you what is going to fail before we start rather than after. If you are already out of service on the roadside, that is a different call and it comes to us as urgent.
