Clean Truck Check (HD I/M) covers nearly all diesel trucks over 14,000 lbs that operate in California — including out-of-state trucks that cross the line. Run drayage or long-haul into CA ports and you're in scope, Tacoma base or not.
What the program requires
- Register the vehicle in CARB's CTC-VIS system and pay the annual compliance fee
- Periodic emissions testing — an OBD test for newer trucks, or a smoke/opacity test for older ones
- Reporting the passing test on schedule (moving toward multiple times a year)
- Keep the truck's emissions systems functional — no tampered DPF, EGR or DEF
